November 19th: It seemed everyone on Twitter had something to say about the impending New Xbox Experience, so much so that even I was itching to download the Dashboard update. Most people seemed to generally like the overhaul, but the buzz was all about the Avatars. I’d made my feelings on Avatars pretty clear, jumping to the conclusion I’d hate them, therefore NXE, months before it even hit. I’m not normally one to condemn something before I’ve even had a taster; it just seems wrong. But unfortunately my doubt has been somewhat founded, and that stems way beyond the Avatars.

I know it’s unfair to condemn something before it’s even made its way to our 360s. After all, as my post regarding my hatred of sci-fi and my consequent love of Mass Effect proved, you can’t judge a book by its cover. But what you can do is develop initial impressions then rant about them on your blog!
Everywhere I look at the moment, various updated screenshots of the New Xbox Experience are being published onto the internets, yet friends of mine and readers of this blog have been fairly quiet on what their initial impressions on it are. From the moment this new-look and dramatic overhaul of the dashboard was revealed at E3 this year, I’ve been anti-NXE, mainly spouting much abuse towards the ridiculous Avatars we have to adopt.

If the release calendar over at GamePlay is anything to go by, September is going to be a very difficult month for myself in the decisions department. Looking at my wish list, September alone has 7 titles out which I’m desperate to drop some cash on and invest some serious time into.
Fortunately I can’t jump from one game to another without completing whatever I started, so I won’t find my bank balance taking too much of a hammering. I am, however, completely stumped as to what I should buy.

I don’t have anything derogatory to say about Alan Wake. My advice to you? Spend a night in Bright Falls and soak up the eerie atmosphere. Alan Wake excels at thrilling you psychologically. Which is why it’s called a psychological thriller, I guess…
