Fearing The Xbox 360’s Future

I don’t usually find myself watching The HipHopGamer Show, mainly because hip hop isn’t my scene. Now if it was called The SillySkaDancingGamer Show, I might tune in a little more often. Regardless, their latest episode caught my eye because of the title ‘Microsoft Slowing Down? Sony Stays Hardcore While Xbox Test The Casual Market‘. It’s something I’ve found occupying my mind a little recently, so much so that a friend and I had a rather interesting discussion about it the other day.

My Inevitable Thoughts On NXE

November 19th: It seemed everyone on Twitter had something to say about the impending New Xbox Experience, so much so that even I was itching to download the Dashboard update. Most people seemed to generally like the overhaul, but the buzz was all about the Avatars. I’d made my feelings on Avatars pretty clear, jumping to the conclusion I’d hate them, therefore NXE, months before it even hit. I’m not normally one to condemn something before I’ve even had a taster; it just seems wrong. But unfortunately my doubt has been somewhat founded, and that stems way beyond the Avatars.

The RPG vs The FPS

The last game I completed was Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway. Before that it was Mass Effect. Prior to that I finished Eternal Sonata for the second time, and previous to that, I put 110 hours into Lost Odyssey. Currently I’m nearing finishing Mass Effect for a second time (racing my best friend to 1000 points… and currently winning!), and next on my agenda is Fable II. Four out of those five games I’ve mentioned are RPGs!

New Xbox Experience Looks Kind Of Shite, No?

I know it’s unfair to condemn something before it’s even made its way to our 360s. After all, as my post regarding my hatred of sci-fi and my consequent love of Mass Effect proved, you can’t judge a book by its cover. But what you can do is develop initial impressions then rant about them on your blog!

Everywhere I look at the moment, various updated screenshots of the New Xbox Experience are being published onto the internets, yet friends of mine and readers of this blog have been fairly quiet on what their initial impressions on it are. From the moment this new-look and dramatic overhaul of the dashboard was revealed at E3 this year, I’ve been anti-NXE, mainly spouting much abuse towards the ridiculous Avatars we have to adopt.

Michael And Jung, More Of A Hinder Than Help

I really want to start this post off with an incoherent string of curse words, for Michael and Jung – the accompanying squad mates in Rainbow Six Vegas - really know how to piss a lady off.

I’ve ranted about them many times before, be it on Twitter or on my blog. When Ubisoft made the original Vegas, they blatantly didn’t put much emphasis on A.I., resulting in an infuriating single player campaign where, really, you’d have been much better off without Mung (as they will now be collectively called).
