Aside: This Is How Much Of A Geek I Am

You’re all about to collectively call me out on how sad I am, and do that annoying “taxi for Baxter” thing (Baxter being my surname, by the way). But yeah, this is how much of a geek I am.

When I’m playing a JRPG - which just so happens to be now - I sit with a notepad by my side, jotting down notes whenever an ambiguous clue is given in conversation with a NPC. So, for example, some melancholy stranger (they’re always melancholy in JRPGs) will hint at buried treasure he’d concealed long ago in the past, just outside a dungeon you’ll happen to venture towards later in the game. Most people will have forgotten by the time they get there, but not I! No, I have it written down in my trusty moleskine. What’s even worse is that I then tick next to each objective I’ve completed. Okay, I’ll get my coat and leave now.

Trump me, I dare ya.

Wait, you mean most people don’t do that?! I have an entire ‘gaming’ folder for stuff like that, and maps and charts and character info for roleplaying. S’ok though, I embraced my geekiness years ago. Tell you what though, you’ve definitely bested me in your standards as a geek - I just can’t bring myself to use a moleskine for my gaming notes. ;)

Doesn’t everyone do that? I keep a notepad on my desk while I play RPGs. The pad saw a lot of use during Oblivion and a similar amount of action during Fallout 3.

It has to be a geek thing. I actually had a 3 ring binder parted into 4 sections when I played EQOA. 1) for notes, 2) for maps/item drops and 3) quest/loot info, and lastly 4) character stats/build info. I used to dual box as well, so I actually had 2 binders :P Man I miss playing that game.

I never used a moleskine though, my methods were a bit more getto, standard 3 punch hole lined paper and even bits of scrap; whatever I had around.
