Aside: Major Nelson Messaged Me, Microsoft Gained Ashley Kudos

Following on from my blog post regarding a possible age filter for Xbox Live, Major Nelson contacted me via Xbox Live to say he was sharing the post with his team. Dave Moran mentioned in the comments that Microsoft has a massive team working on this kind of thing, and it looks like he was bang on. Major Nelson also said to get in touch with him if I had any more feedback/comments regarding Xbox Live.

You know, for all the cursing I do about Microsoft, I think it’s fantastic they’re willing to communicate with their audience to improve the overall Xbox experience in such an effective way. It’s reassuring to know they’re listening to what those of us who spend a chunk of our time playing Xbox have to say. Microsoft, you’ve earned some kudos with me. The next time my 360 freezes on me - which will probably be tonight - I’ll think twice before condemning you.

Are you serious? That’s so kewl! So we gamers do have some influence in how the game industry sees us ;-)
Good work, Ashley!

Wonder how they will do this, but ok.
It would be too easy for a 12-year-old to bypass a regular age-check by just saying he’s 20 years old.
So I’m curious to hear the follow-up about this. Keep us posted.

@Skar Oh I highly doubt age filters will be implemented. As far as I’m aware they just gather ideas and constructive criticism from the community - who knows what comes of it. But it is cool that they pay attention.

Indeed, very cool that you heard from Major Nelson himself.

I’ve heard from a few Microsoft people over the years - normally after writing a big rant about them. But knowing ever came of any of the conversations I had with them. One guy was trying to take the approach of “let’s see what we can do to get you praising us instead of bashing us.” I was totally stoked about that and fired off a list of beefs I had at the moment… never heard from him again.

@Matt Brett That’s a shame. I mean, there’s no point gathering the opinions of your customers if you don’t plan on doing anything for it.
